What is the goal of education?

  1. Wow, good questions all. I am wondering, what about education in "special/extenuating circumstances?" For example, in societies in the past during times of war, formal education was suspended at times. Also, in farming communities formal education was only available at times when students were not needed at home for work. Is there still learning happening when formal education is not happening? How can we measure/prove this?

  2. Hey, great blog Mayville's block 2! I wonder, what do students think about education not being a requirement for students? I.E. parents could choose whether or not their child went to school? We here in the USA receive a free education as a liberty to be enjoyed; this is not the case in many civilizations world wide. Should fee education be something all children are exposed to, or should it be a choice?

  3. For the sake of dubious blogging... "formal education" in terms of USA is considered a property right, according to the Bill of Rights. However, education is not a free priviledge, but a civil responsibility, which ironically can be used against a student. Afterall, truancy is illegal under 17 years of age. Thus, in the USA participation in formal education can be argued as a federal requirement.
